WHERE IT ALL STARTED
成立於2018年底，根源酒藏的總部落在台北台灣，是一家與熱情的手工葡萄酒小農合作的台灣葡萄酒進口商、分銷商與零售商。創辦人Benjamin在新加坡出生和長大，因在美國紐約生活和工作時受到食品和飲料行業活力和文化的啟發，希望能透過美酒和餐飲在台灣重現並創造相似的經歷和對話。
Rootstock Selections is a Taiwan based wine importer, distributor, and retailer who work with passionate and artisanal producers. The company was founded at the end of 2018, with headquarters in Taipei, Taiwan. Our founder, Benjamin, was born and raised in Singapore, but have lived and worked abroad in New York, USA, where he was inspired by the energy and culture around the food and beverage industry. He seeks to recreate these experiences and conversations through wine and hospitality here in Taiwan.
名字背後的故事
BEHIND THE NAME
1800年代後期，葡萄根瘤蚜蟲摧毀了近70%的葡萄園，影響了世界上主要的葡萄酒產區。這種蟲在植物根莖內部造成嚴重破壞，使農作物慢慢被侵蝕。為了尋找解決方法，農夫與釀酒師將法國葡萄樹嫁接到美國砧木上，並成功拯救了葡萄藤。根據移植的成功，我們可以說葡萄樹的砧木是其成功結出優質果實的關鍵基本元素之一。但由於這元素通常深埋在地底下，很多時候會被葡萄園和酒莊遺忘或僅是閒聊時帶過，根源酒藏為紀念葡萄藤嫁接在砧木的重要性，特以此取名。
The idea behind the name Rootstock Selections, is derived from the importance of a vine’s rootstock. In the late 1800’s, Phylloxera affected many major growing wine regions in the world destroying a vast number (almost 70%) of vineyards. This caused havoc within growers as crops were slowly being destroyed, this led them to seek out a way to solve this issue, resulting in the grafting of American rootstocks to France vines (Vitis Vinifera). With the success of this method, we can say that the rootstock of a vine is one of the key fundamental elements of it’s success in producing great fruit. But that element is often hidden below the ground, and many times forgotten amongst the other chatter around vineyards, and winery.
