Domaine Chapel is the brainchild of Michele Smith and David Chapel. Having met in Beaujolais, whilst Michele (formerly the wine director for Brooklyn Fare in New York) was on holiday and David was working at Lapierre. Relocation from New York to the Beaujolais in 2015, they established Domaine Chapel in the cru village of Régnié. The first vintage, 2016 Julienas Côte de Bessay, was vinified at Lapierre whilst they were still searching for their own cellars.

Starting from 2018, the Domaine produces two more cuvees besides the existing Beaujolais Villages from their own 3 hectares of vineyards in the crus of Fleurie and Chiroubles. Smith-Chapel was also set up with the aim of exploring unique parcels in Beajoulais, and outside. Domaine Chapel wines have slowly gained a cult following amongst the new wave of Beaujolais producers that are making wine from the region with rigorous farming and lesser extraction to achieve a level of freshness and energy that defines the wines. Winemaking is done with low extraction, carbonic maceration, no pigeage, and no punching down. This is a domaine to watch in the coming years.
