In 2012, Mikey Giugni embarked on his journey with Scar of the Sea, crafting Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and cider sourced from the abundant orchards of Santa Maria Valley and the coastal regions of San Luis Obispo. Inspired by the profound influence of the Pacific Ocean, Mikey's creations capture the essence of how it molds the climate, soils, and geology of the enchanting coastal vineyards, draped in a daily dance with the mystical fog.
Collaborating with a carefully chosen group of vineyards committed to sustainability and practicing at least organic or biodynamic farming, Mikey conducts his artistry in a refined warehouse winery in San Luis Obispo. Here, he adopts a meticulous approach, relying on native yeast fermentations, predominantly using neutral oak barrels, avoiding clarification, minimal filtration, and judiciously employing sulfur throughout the wine's lifespan.
These wines are more than just beverages; they are narratives. Crafted with the intent to depict their origin, the dedicated stewards of the land, and to mirror the unique characteristics of each vintage beneath the warm California sun. The products of Scar of the Sea are pure, captivating, and exemplify a delicate balance.
