Wonderwerk is a venture founded by lifelong friends Andrew Lardy and Issamu Kamide, who hail from Virginia and ventured to California with the vision of evolving their wine brand into "The Wonderwerk House of Fermentation." Andrew, initially pursuing a graduate degree in neuropsychology, found the scientific experiments he engaged in too abstract, lacking tangible elements, and overly clinical. His enduring passion for culinary exploration and wine led him to engage in the clandestine production of apple wine and work part-time as a bartender during his college years.

The grapes for Wonderwerk wines are sourced from various vineyards across California, meticulously selected by Issamu and Andrew based on their conscientious cultivation practices. They emphasize, "We seek responsibly farmed fruit that provides us with unique character in the winery. Sometimes we actively search for a specific profile or varietal, while at other times, the site serendipitously discovers us. Most of our vineyards embrace organic practices and are working towards certification, with sustainable farming being a fundamental requirement," they affirm. In the cellar, Wonderwerk advocates inclusivity and the freedom to explore new paths in fermentation. Issamu articulates, "We bring our desire to twist, turn, and tweak flavors and ideas into something enjoyable for everyone." Their co-fermented wines and piquette embody this philosophy, crafted without fining or filtration, with only a touch of sulfur at bottling.
